Claremont Cycle Depot Bike Club

Posting to this website

As a Club member, you already have access to a number of features. Just like previously, you can see links to other Club members email at the Club member list page. You can also email the entire Club membership at once with the Ridermail page. You must be logged in to use the Ridermail and to view all the member information.

Now you can do a bit more. You can easily post a group ride for the entire world to see. Go to the group rides page. If you’re not already logged in, use the “Login” link at the end of the navigation menu to log in. You’ll then see a simple form to fill in the details of your group ride. There’s also a link with directions, should you need it.

You can also add News to the Club news page. There’s also a form there that will let you post your news plus one photo.

But, you can do more if you use the site’s administrative interface. Here’s how:

Log in at the main login form. (If you logged in from the Club website, you’ll have to log in again here. Long explanation.) Cookies must be enabled.

Mouseover the “Publish” tab and click on the “Club News” link. This will take you to a form where you can enter your news. A title is required, as is some text. You can use the formatting buttons if you want (select the text you want to format, then click the desired formatting button), but hitting the “Enter” key twice will create a paragraph. Play around and you’ll see. (For the techies, it uses Textile.)

If you want to upload a photograph, use the “Main Photo” button to choose a photo that you’ve got on your computer. It will be resized to fit, but it’s best to use some sort of image-editing application to get make it no larger than 640×480 pixels in size. (I recommend Irfanview with all the plugins if you don’t currently have something to do this.)

Up to three additional photos may be uploaded with the “Additional photos” field. These will appear smaller (100×100) than the main photo, so you can place them in the text of your news. The instructions tell how to do this.

When you’ve got your news entered, click “Submit” and your news will appear on the new page. Use the “Club Site” link at the top of the page to get back to the site.

Club-member classifieds are planned, but not yet implemented.

Only you (and Club officers) can edit your posts in any of the member-accessible “weblogs.”

Also, for those folks that don’t like a horizontally formatted website, click on the “V” between the “Left” and “Right” to change the site to a vertically formatted site.
