About Trek off-road bikes

Trek has been making mountain bikes for almost as long as road bikes. In 1983, Trek made its first mountain bike. Ten years later it introduced its 9000 full-suspension bike. The year they starting sponsoring a road team (1996), they also started sponsoring a mountain-bike team. In just a few years, in 1999, one of their sponsored riders, Travis Brown, won the NORBA national XC title.

In the following years, Trek-sponsored riders have gone on to win national, world and world-cup championships in several disciplines. For over a decade, the Trek/VW team has been one of the most dominant dirt bike squads on the circuit. As always, pursuing new technology has been an important basis for all of Trek’s racing endeavors.

Driven to innovate

Sponsoring a successful off-road racing team demands constant innovation. New materials and designs are put through their paces in one of the toughest “labs” of all: the racing scene. Developments in suspension, braking, frame design and wheels are all tested by racers before being released to the general riding public. Tubeless tires are just one of the latest items to come from this testing.

Women ride off-road too

Besides their WSD road-bike line, Trek offers women’s specific models of mountain bikes, too. The women’s specific geometry, with a shorter top tube and stem and a steeper seat angle, creates a riding position more natural to a woman’s body. A seat designed to fit a woman and narrower handlebars are complemented with a suspension tuned for lighter riders. Increased comfort and greater control lead to more confidence on the trail.
