Here at Claremont Cycle Depot, we sell bikes, we fix bikes, but most importantly, we ride bikes. And because we're riders, we know what it takes to make a good bike. We've chosen to sell lines that offer both quality and a range of prices to fit everyone's needs.

Dave Mirra makes pro-quality BMX bikes, just like those the top riders use, in case you need one for your next competition at the X-Games.

Sinister, located just down the road in Bellows Falls, specializes in high-quality mountain-bike frames designed for the type of off-road riding we have here in New England.

Specialized is another company with a wide range of bikes. Plus they make many items of cycling gear, from parts like tires and saddles to clothing and helmets. We carry a number of their lines.

Trek, for instance, has a one of the widest lines of road, mountain, comfort and bmx bikes in the business. Trek bikes come in all price ranges, aimed at all types of riders.

Fitting your bike

Probably the most important thing in a new bike is having it fit you and be fitted to you. This is far more important to your riding enjoyment than having the latest high-tech frame material or shaving a few ounces off the bike’s weight.

Why fit matters

A bike that fits you will be more comfortable and fun to ride. An ill-fitting bike can make all sorts of body parts hurt — your back, neck, hands, butt, knees — just to mention a few. And it’s not fun to do something that hurts! (In extreme cases, a bike that doesn’t fit can even cause serious knee problems for serious riders.)
When your bike fits, you actually are less prone to accidents. You’re more stable and safer in corners and on downhills because your weight is properly distributed over the two wheels. Your balance is better, and the bike is more responsive and steers more predictably.
A properly fitting bike will make you a more efficient rider. Remember, you provide the energy to move the bike; you don’t want to waste it.

Some fit considerations

The bike should fit your body. This seems obvious, but everybody’s a little different. Taller people will need a larger frame size (or at least a higher seat), but shorter people with longer legs might need the same frame size. And if their thighs are longer, they’ll probably want their seat a little further back. A more flexible person may want their handlebars lower, but everybody should have the reach to the bars adjusted to give good front-to-back weight distribution. Even the length of your foot determines where to mount the cleats on your cycling shoes.
The bike should fit the type of rider you are. Road racers want as small a frame as will still fit them. Their seats will be high and their handlebars low. If they compete in triathlons, their seat will usually be forward from normal. The casual rider, looking for comfort, will want a bike that is exactly the opposite. Someone planning a bicycle tour might want mix comfort and efficiency.
