Trek road bikes

Trek 1.2

This entry-level model in Trek's road series is a 24-speed model with a mix of Shimano, SRAM and Bontrager components. The aluminum frame is fitted with a Carbon fork.

Trek 1.5

The 1.5 sports a carbon fork and a mix of Shimano, SRAM and Bontrager components. This nine-speed (rear) model comes in either a double or triple with sizes from 50 to 64 cm.

Trek 2.3 WSD

The 2.3 WSD is a women's specific model with a 10-speed rear and either a double or triple in front. It has an alloy frame with carbon stays and a mix of Shimano 105, Ultegra and Bontrager components. Sizes from 45 to 56 cm.

Madone 4.7 WSD™

The 4.7 WSD is one of several women's specific models in Trek's top-of-the-line Madone series. 10-speed/triple bicycle, with a full carbon frame offering women more comfort, control and confidence. It has a mix of Shimano Ultegra, 105 and Bontrager components, and is sized from 47 to 56 cm.

Madone 5.2

This ten-speed (rear) model comes with either a compact double or triple crankset. Its full carbon frame is fitted with a carbon fork and seatpost and is built up with a mix of Shimano 105, Ultegra SL and Bontrager components.

Trek road bikes

Trek starting making steel-framed bikes in a converted barn in 1976. By 1983, they had grown enough to sponsor a racing team. One of the earlier proponents of aluminmum as a frame material, their bonded frames pushed the limits of performance. They introduced their first carbon frame in 1986, years earlier than most manufacturers, moving to the OCLV process by 1992. The Saturn-sponsored professional road team raced on Trek bikes starting in 1996.

In 1998, Trek provided the bikes for the US Postal Service professional cycling team, featuring Lance Armstrong, just returned to professional cycling after his bout with cancer. His first victory (on a Trek 5500 OCLV stock bike) in the Tour de France comes the next year. Lance goes on to win six more times, all on Trek bikes.

Innovation through racing

The Discovery Channel cycling team continued to ride Trek bikes throughout its existence. And with the move of its manager and many of its riders to Team Astana for 2008, Trek will still be represented in the pro peleton. Unlike many manufacturers, Trek doesn't build custom frames for its sponsored racers. They ride stock bikes that anyone can buy. Like auto manufacturers that sponsor auto-racing teams, Trek uses their sponsored riders to test and help further develop cycling technology.

For the 2005 Tour, Trek developed the Madone SSLx, a refinement of the SSL, already the lightest bike Trek made. (So light that weight has to be added to meet UCI minimum weight restrictions!) Since 2006, this same bike or its successor has been available to everyone.

Women's specific designs

Trek has developed a line of bikes specifically for women cyclists. Their research has shown that women exert more force on their backs than men in the same riding position. Their WSD™ frames create a more natural riding position for women by balancing their weight more evenly between the hips and the hands.

This is accomplished by bringing the handlebars closer to the seat/saddle. Ultimately this creates a slightly less aggressive riding position for comfort without sacrificing the power efficiency. Additionally, achieving the right balance between the hands and hips gives female cyclists more control when cornering and handling. WSD™ designs lessen pressure on the hands and reduce sore shoulders and stiff neck muscles.
